I spent the better part of the winter on a free-cycling sleep schedule. My job requirements as a communications technician pretty much required that I be on duty 24/7. With that, it didn't particularly matter when I slept, as someone could call for assistance with ailing equipment at any time. So, aside from occasionally getting calls while I was sleeping, I pretty much just slept when I was tired and got up when I was rested. This process resulted in my day being around 25-26 hours long. I'd stay up about an extra hour or so each waking period, and then sleep until I was rested.
I don't think I've ever slept quite so well!
So what's all this talk of sleep got to do with a photo of MAPO? Well I'll tell you. It's the only reason that I was out wandering around on the sastrugi at 4am taking pictures. I shot both digital and film on this trip, with the digital results shown here, and the one of the film frames shown in the 'slide show' section.
The foreground light is from a hazy moon at my back.
