During my year on the ice, I shot over 2500 digital photos with a digital point-n-shoot camera, and several hundred on 35mm film. While many of the photos were repeats, or just the results of fooling around, I'm very happy with quite a few.
The digital camera that I brought along was a Sony DSC-S85, featuring a 4.1 megapixel CCD, a healthy set of manual control features, and a 128MB memory card. I received it "next-day air" on the day before I left the US. |

At the start of the winter season, I took on the responsibility of writing weekly reports for the South Pole IT Department. I decided that it would be a neat project make a "digital postcard" to send back to the states with each of my reports. While not every week was worthy of a photo home, there were typically plenty of good photos from the previous week to cover me. For a self-directed web tour, try the links listed below by time period. If you're a flash-animation junkie, check out the slide show! I hope you enjoy them all. |

I've finally gotten some of my slides scanned and appropriately resized for the site. Here are about 16 of them, so far. I've just put them up, and haven't added much in the way of comments, but I hope you'll enjoy them just the same. These photos are all from 35mm film, scanned at 4000dpi, and resized for the web. (Original file sizes, at 16 bits, are >100MB. Huge...) I used a Canon A2E with assorted Canon lenses for these shots. If you have any questions about the imagery, email me! |
